Why doesnot orkut stand first in Social Networking sites..!?

Social Networking sites perfectly do not need any introduction. Since the advent of Facebook, the networking changed its way. Today, there are many active social networking sites. There are even many active dating sites. But lets put out dating sites from our conversation.

It can easily accepted that orkut is(may be 'was' suits here) the most active social networking site in India. Google made huge money on orkut in India. That's one of the major reasons why google puts special interest on Indian market. But, it should be accepted, with any further argument, that facebook has been retaining its first rank since years.

The main attractions in facebook are the classy look, its applications and its commitment towards connectivity. Whatever you do on facebook, it will be notified to your friends so that they can comment or like your work. The work you do on your facebook is very transparent. (They offer some privacy too, though) But this is what many feel bad about it, Less Privacy. Further the chat in facebook sucks. It hangs very frequently and it has no 'Invisible' option. But we can get easily connected with friends and the applications in facebook are really excellent.

Twitter is a site which is finding its way now in India. I like twitter because it makes us easily updated with the celebrities. Its short and simple treatment towards networking, has got it many followers. You can find persons such as SRK, Priyanka Chopra, RGV and others there. There is no formal way of 'Friend Request' here. Just find the person and follow him to recieve updates.

Speaking about Orkut, with the competition from facebook, google changed its treatment towards it. They copied(or highly inspired) few features from facebook such as commenting on friend's status, the glossy look... But the gtalk in orkut is really superb. We can also find many active communities in orkut(the communities in fb are so dull). The 'Buzz', introduced by google was not upto the mark and disappointed the fans of google. It was more like a mixture of twitter and few features of facebook.

But orkut has very high competition from other sites too. Facebook, Myspace, twitter are just few of them. Each has its own positive features. Further, people got bored with the old way of networking through 'Scraps'. They need a change. The applications feature of orkut does not get us any addictive ones and most of them are really inactive. Orkut, which was in top 10 positions in 2007, fell to around 21st place now.

But still orkut is also one of my favourites and commonly visited sites. The gtalk and the communities in orkut make me visit it almost everyday. The new features in Orkut's gtalk, video calling, conference chat, proves that Google is still commited towards orkut. They are not going easily leave it. Lets hope, Orkut, the first site which made us(to most of the Indians) taste Social networking on Internet, gains back and also doesn't lose its Originality.
